Life Under China Bridge & Other Stories of Minorities in Old Park City
“This book is about minorities in Park City’s past. The problem is everyone in Park City was a minority. Ethnic groups have the making of a grand soup. Finns, Swedes, Icelanders, Norwegians, Danes, mixed with Germans, French, Netherlanders, Russians, Slavs, Poles, Croatians, Mexicans, Austrians, and Spanish, then add a pinch of Greeks and a sprinkle of Italians; then splash in the larger groups of Scotch, English, Cornish, Welch, Irish and native born Americans. Be sure to stir in a good mix of religions: Catholic, Congregationalists, Episcopalians, Methodists, Mormons, Baptists, Christian Scientists, Salvation Army and a whole school of Free Thinkers. Season this mixture with strikes, lockouts, fire, and snow slides. Throw in a few epidemics and economic depressions for good measure. Let it simmer for a few decades; try to ignore the few times the pot boils over, and in the end emerges a grand race of true American people.”
